old Wellington diesel bus

Fresh from the Wellington City Transport paintshop at Kilbirnie in 1980, stands a British built 1957 AEC Reliance Mark 1 number 280. They were 40 seaters with Metro Cammell Weymann body work, and AH470 7.7 litre engines. They were the first buses in Wellington's fleet to have semi automatic gearboxes and were fleet numbered as they arrived from 72 to 138; later from 272 to 338. They were the last order to be constructed entirely in UK. This was possibly the last of its class to receive such treatment as all had gone by 1982. (Wallace Trickett)

For more information on Wellington's one-time buses - and all the other forms of transport - see the book Wellington Transport Memories.

I came across one with the number 358, you mentioned that there were numbered from 1 to 338. Any thoughts idea about this?
