a steam-hauled SNCF passenger train on the Viaduc de l'Altier in 1956

This 257 meter long, 73 meter high viaduct built in 1869 is on the line from Saint-Germain-des-Fossés to Nîmes-Courbessac. Built from masonry it enabled the serving of l'Altier then in 1965 du lac de Villefort and the route départementale 901.

'Riviera Express' Amsterdam--Nice/Menton poster circa 1900
It would have been a long trip -- even today it would take about 11 hours, probably close to twice that then. According to this it was a First class luxury train. Staatsspoor is Dutch for state railway.
