logging wagons at Vuokatti, Finland


The way logs should be transported - from the cutting sites to the railheads by truck and from there to the sawmill or port by train. A pic from June 2010 by Geoff Churchman, one notes an old track vehicle on the siding to the left.

It happens for export and afew sawmills in wanganui over to napier and masterton, wellington doesn't have the port space so theres another two yards they take logs to in seaview that dont have rail sidings.
Theres not enough money in the logs to have it all go on the rail export logs fetch the best price and with rail the logs are handled 6 different times from forest to boat where as its only 3 for the trucks.

If the government hadn't sold off the rail in the first place things would be alot better for the rail theres alot of track in a sad state thanks to toll.
