A 3-car electric multiple unit built by English Electric is seen on a run from Wellington to Paekakariki not far from the Plimmerton station on a weekend in the early 1970s. These were the standard commuter rail transport in the Wellington region for over 40 years and have only recently been completely withdrawn.
