Norfolk and Western class A articulated 4-6-6-4 steam locomotive in Ohio, 1959


One of the 43 of this powerful class built by Norfolk & Western in their Roanoke, Virgina, workshops, number 1202 is seen at Portsmouth, Ohio, in 1959 not long before the class generally was retired.  Stablemate number 1218 is now in the Virginia Museum of Transportation, website, and was used on several excursions from 1986 to 1991, when it was withdrawn for a never completed overhaul.
Number 1212 seen in Williamson, West Virginia, in May 1958.
