boat trains of Weymouth along the quay


Weymouth was and is the English end of the Channel Islands ferry route: a painting by Robin Pinnock, and a few of the pics on this webpage of a 33 class diesel hauling a boat train in July 1985, preceded by two men in hi-viz vests, two or three years before the practice ceased. Presumably people now get a bus or walk. The area to be kept clear is marked with yellow lines, but you wonder what happened with any car that encroached...
