"Volodymyrskyi Uzviz, 1950," the report that this pic comes from says.
At that time, trams still ran on Volodymyrskyi Uzviz, and there were very few trees on Trukhanov Island.Trukhaniv Island is an island on the Dnieper River, opposite the central part of Kyiv between the main riverbed of the Dnieper to the west and its branch Chortory to the east; the area is about 450 hectares. In the mid-19th century, the first houses appeared on Trukhaniv Island, and in the 1880s a workers' settlement appeared. When it was destroyed during World War II, the island was converted into a recreation area.
