Halberstadt, Germany, trams

Electric tram operation in this town which presently has a population of 41,000 began on 2 May 1903 with the conversion of the 19th century horse tramlines and construction of a new tram depot on Gröperstrasse.

The meter-gauge tramway currently operates two routes, both of which start at the Hauptbahnhof or main station with a combined route length of 11.7 km, about half the maxium extent reached a century ago.

The main railway station as it it looked then, less substantial now.
