Santa Fe EMD F45

One of the 40 of this model bought by Santa Fe over 1968-1971 is seen on the point of this freight train, taken with a zoom lens in the Mojave Desert at Klondike in California in May 1971.  This was a Co-Co type powered by a turbocharged EMD 645E3 20-cylinder engine rated at 3,600 hp (2,680 kW).  The other 46 of the model were bought by what became BN. Behind it are an SD40 and an SD45.
