An artwork by Vernon Ward, undated but at least 60 years old. The Longships Lighthouse tower stands 12 metres high and the light has a range of 20 km (11 nautical miles); it is one long 5-second flash every ten seconds. The
flashes are white when seen from seaward, but red sectors show if a
vessel strays too close to either Cape Cornwall to the north or Gwennap Head to the south-southeast. A fog signal sounds every ten seconds.
