Non-fiction publishers like us are often aware that there is a missing component to their depictions of history - you can present physical appearance, describe how things were done and the chain of events, but the zeitgeist is missing.
This is an area where literary techniques can help, and "creative non-fiction" has been done successfully by some top authors... and of course for a movie script it is unavoidable. The problem is how much creativity will be accepted by the primary audience for the book.
