Rogers K class on the Plains Railway

The Plains Vintage Railway operates from a base at Tinwald close to Ashburton over part of the former Mt Somers branch line. One of its star attractions has for many years now been one of the 8-member Rogers K class, K 88, a 2-4-2 type from 1877 built by the Rogers Locomotive Works in New Jersey, which was recovered in 1974 from the Oreti River in Southland where it had been dumped in the 1920s and restored to full operationality on this museum's line in 1981.
