model of Norwegian mainline BM73 class EMU sets available

Model railway manufacturers NMJ Topline have announced the arrival of their model of the NSB (Norwegian State Railways) Motorvognsett BM73, Blå Intercity, i.e. the Blue Intercity railcar set BM73, in HO scale, which has a total length of 1225 mm.

The real thing looks impressive on the tracks. Part of a general plan for increased passenger train speeds on mainlines, NSB ordered 16 new tilting trains for use on existing tracks. The car bodies are technically quite similar to the Airport Express trains between Oslo S (Central) and the airport. The train consists of 4 parts of which 3 have motor bogies and one has a small bistro. The trains were built by ADTRANZ and delivered from 1999 to 2001. The train has a total power output of 2,646 kW, a weight of 227 tonnes and a maximum speed of 210 km/h. BM73's were put into traffic from Oslo to Bergen, Stavanger and Trondheim. Later NSB received another 6 sets, BM73b, for the Intercity trains between Oslo and Halden/Gøteborg (Sweden).

The model will set you back NOK 2,995 or $US 500.
