The 212 or V100 as the series was designated initially was produced to replace steam on non-electrified branch-lines. Altogether 381 of the B-B type were produced between 1962 and 1965. The V12 engines had a continuous output of 993 kW (1325 hp). Service weight was 63 tonnes and top speed was 100 km/h or 61 mph. Final withdrawl took place in 2004.
