historic Cottbus trams, Germany

The Spremberger Turm (Tower) is a city landmark.

On the left is the start of the Stadtpromenade along which trams still run but it seems that the tracks have been removed from the Spremberger Strasse in the background.

The lead car here looks to be a rebuild of an original open platform 2-axle car from the beginning (see below). This photo was taken on the 50th anniversary of the tram system in 1953.

This city with a present population of about 100,000 has a 20.1 km tram network in metre gauge which was opened in 1903 and electrically operated from the outset.

These postcard views cover up to and include the DDR era.
