cars in Featherston Street, Wellington, mid 1930s


In those days it was two-way.  The car on the left looks like it was a public passenger vehicle as the sign on it says "Masterton-Wellington." The old GPO was demolished about 1972 and the site remained a hole in the ground for over a decade.  For lots more, see the book Wellington: a Capital century

The car on the right is a 1928 Cadillac 341 V8 sedan used by Jenkins Motor Services on their Wellington/Martinborough/Masterton/Woodville service. One of 13 vehicles in the somewhat varied Jenkins fleet which was taken over by NZR Road Services on 19 May 1943, this 341 lasted with them until 10 May 1946.
