You may recall someone trying this stunt on the track near Waikanae about a decade ago. Our 3'6" gauge is not kind to vehicles as the young man discovered but several chairs/sleepers were damaged.He was charged.
There have been a few instances around Wellington over the years of drunk drivers trying to evade police roadblocks this way. Finding out the hard way they can't do that by the police arresting them is preferable to finding out by a train crashing into them.
