Electric trams to Sumner began on 25 April 1907 replacing the steam trams though these were still used occasionally when extra traffic required them. The line was run as a standalone service with trams starting and ending their runs at Cathedral Square. The last tram ran on 6 December 1952. See other posts, and of course our books.
