This type of small 3-wheel pick-up was popular in 1950s Japan. In 1952 the Hope Jidosha Company in Tokyo built a 3-wheeler with a 700 pound (320 kg) carrying capacity and powered by a 350cc twin-piston 2-stroke engine that powered the rear axle. The Hopestar came with a number of body variations. The company also produced 4-wheelers until 1962.
