the Delaware and Hudson - "America's oldest continually operated transportation company"
On 8 August 1829, the Delaware and Hudson or D&H's first locomotive, the Stourbridge Lion, made history as the first locomotive to run on rails in the United States. The company still exists, although since 1991 it has been a subsidiary of the Canadian Pacific Railway; CPR has assumed all operations and the D&H does not maintain any locomotives or rolling stock.
This view is of a D&H "ten wheeler", i.e. a 4-6-0 - stated as road number 500 - seen at Carbondale, Pennsylvania, in 1951. Analysis of the D&H's 4-6-0 classes here. Carbondale Historical Society website.
