a railcar slowly being recreated

We're not sure if this is a picture of Fiat railcar RM 121, seen at Papakura in Auckland in October 1956, only about a year after its introduction into service, as the last digit is obscurred (123 perhaps), but if it is, then its history is glory to ruin and slowly back to glory again (that process is a fair way from completion). At the Pahiatua Railcar Society headquarters RM 121 is slowly being recreated by using various parts (and not a Fiat motor), and the progress can be checked on their website.

The society is concerned that by the time the restoration/recreation is complete they will be isolated on the North Wairarapa Line and won't be able to go anywhere, as this is one of the lines that the Minister for Roads with Big Trucks, Steven Joyce, wants to close.
