The "Temple of Transport"
This document was one of the items we found during research for the book Wellington Transport Memories last year, but for which there was no room in that book.
It dates from the time the present Wellington Railway Station was opened in 1937 (the Hall-Raine photo also dates from this era) and has some, for us today, rather amusing quotes:
"New books, magazines and other publications to suit all readers. Well-informed attendants will help you make a satisfactory selection for your journey."...
"Ingenious equipment, hygenic methods" in the hairdressing saloon (not salon)...
"Bath rooms" literally had baths as well...
And the "Nursery" (rather than Crèche - the term in those days, nowadays it almost exclusively means a place where plants are grown commercially) had storage for your kid's go-cart.
