Yesterday the lengthy restoration of the railway station at Plimmerton, about 8 km north of Porirua, was complete and opened with special trains and people in period dress. Plimmerton happens to be the base of the Mainline Steam Trust, whose equipment can often been seen on their private sidings.
The above photo is a detail from an S.C. Smith photo taken in 1949.

I was there and the station looked absolutely stunning. It had been brought back from the dead. It was nothing short of miraculous that so many parties and stakeholders and volunteers managed to somehow all agree and work together to finish a great job. Kudos and congrats to all involved!!!
What was once an eyesore has now become a real community asset.... a 1000% improvement! I hope it helps bring people back to using the train, I use the park and ride by the domain and I think I'm a minority at the moment....
