opening of the meter-gauge line from Luxembourg to Echternach, 1904

This was 45.85 km long and in 1904 was operated by the Chemins de fer vicinaux (CV), which delegated its operation to the Société des chemins de fer secondaires luxembourgeois (Luxembourg Secondary Railway Company or CSL) then to the Société anonyme luxembourgeoise des chemins de fer et minières Prince-Henri (Luxembourg Limited Railway and Mining Company Prince-Henri or PH) from 1919. It was electrified in 1928, then deelectrified over 1944-1954.

It was operated by the Chemins de fer à voie étroite (Narrow Gauge Railways or CVE) from 1934 during the merger of the three companies operating the narrow gauge lines. The Deutsche Reichsbahn took over operations in 1942 under the occupation, then the Société nationale des chemins de fer luxembourgeois or CFL in 1946.

Operation stopped in 1954 and it was officially closed in 1957.

The locomotive visible is one of 4 of the type Mallet 02+20T (0-4-0+0-4-0T numbers B1 -- B4 used by the railway, which received new boilers in 1933.
