Geneva International Airport 10th anniversary poster, Switzerland 1958

It depicts a four-engine jet, probably a Boeing 707. In fact, the first four-engine jet would not touch down in Switzerland until two years later, when a TWA Boeing B-707-131 landed in Geneva on 7 January 1960.As for Swissair, it took delivery of its first four-engined aircraft, a DC-8-32, on 20 April 1960 in Zurich. It became famous under the registration HB-IDA ‘Matterhorn’ and made its first passenger flight from Zurich to Geneva and New York on 30 May of the same year.

The steam era ended on NZR in the North Island in 1967 but this precinct is a home now to the Steam Inc. heritage operation and there are regular steam hauled excursions around the lower North Island lines from there.

For lots more, see the book New Zealand 1950s Steam in colour compiled rom the Derek Cross collection.

Inca station on the Transandino railway, Chile

At km post 159 and at 2,700 meters altitude. Obviously it was on the rack and pinion section. Not so obvious is which was the station building; presumably the one on the left.  No date, but probably just after completion, see earlier posts.

full size theme park replica of the 'Titanic'

A full-scale replica of the RMS Titanic is under construction in Sichuan Province, China. The project began in 2014 and is being built as part of a theme park attraction in Daying County. The replica measures 883 feet (269 meters) in length and 92 feet in width, identical to the original Titanic. It will be permanently docked on a reservoir and will not sail.

Over 23,000 tons of steel and several years of work have gone into the project, which is expected to include historically accurate details such as the dining room, door handles, and a functioning steam engine to simulate the experience of being aboard the original ship. The project is estimated to cost around one billion yuan ($US 150 million), and the replica is intended to attract tourists from around the world as a five-star hotel and museum experience. Switzerland's first water-toboggan on Lac Léman, 1927

Also known in English as Lake Geneva. The water-toboggan was imported from the United States, was 11 meters high and 25 meters long and allowed people to ‘surf’ on the lake with a board as shown although no rope isn't obvious, it was basically a slide.

With a little model.  Although most of the line is along St Charles Avenue, some is in S. Carrollton. Traveling along it is a cheap way of seeing the grand old garden surrounded houses. (Geoff Churchman pic)

horse-drawn traffic in Warsaw, early 20th century

There are tram tracks but no overhead wires visible, so presumably they were still horse-drawn too. The switch to electricity happened in 1908. This area today is in the Stare Miasto or Old Town. The bridge over the Vistula River is in the background.
