This was built by Dennys in Dumbarton, Scotland in 1903, the 34th ship built by Dennys for the Union Company and sister ship to
Moeraki built the previous year. The ship spent most of her time on trans -Tasman trade but also some trans-Pacific voyages. In January 1904
Manuka made a fast 10 hours 29 minutes passage from Lyttelton to Wellington. The fate was being wrecked on Long Point, South Otago in 1929 without loss of life when on passage from Bluff to Dunedin.
