As it was known between 1971 and 1997 -- before and after this era 'The Democratic Republic of the Congo.' Railways were/are mostly in cape gauge (3 ft 6 in) with some 2 ft gauge. The diesel loco could be one of the South African Class 35-400 locomotives that were leased to Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Zaïrois (SNCZ).
