The 164-metre (538ft) ship, carrying hardwood from Gabon to the French port of Le Havre, has been adrift for six days in the Bay of Biscay. About 300 tonnes of fuel are on board the freighter which is now listing at an angle of between 40 and 50 degrees
A last attempt to tow the freighter will take place today, Monday, the maritime prefecture announced on Sunday. If unsuccessful, the Modern Express will run aground on the sandy coast of the Landes department.
