Muriel was built in 1907 by Messrs Lane & Sons of Totara North, a wooden, screw steamer of 59 gross register tons and owned by P. Feron & Sons.
In 1937 Muriel stranded on the Sumner Bar in Christchurch and was treated as a constructive total loss.

Dimension: length 64.7 feet (19.7 metres), beam 16.2 feet (4.94 metres), depth 8 feet. Engine output 18 hp.
