the Electrobus from Modane to Lanslebourg, France

This 23 km route was one of three isolated trolleybus lines in the Savoie region, opened in 1923 with three Crochat buses shown in the pics. In addition, there were two trailers as in the bottom pic. To this early material was added around 1936 a modern trolley bus (a metal box built on a Renault PY chassis by Le Bastard) taken from the Moutiers-Salins fleet. It was a rural line with little more than four runs per day. Because of the steep grade requiring low gearing it was nicknamed Le Corbillard (the hearse). When the Italian army invaded in June 1940 it destroyed the electrical installations, giving the coup de grâce to the operation.

This line was not restored after 1944-1945 and only the bus from around 1936 survived, but was transferred to Chambery.
