the Stop sign is standard in Europe


We mentioned the case of a Dutch tourist in the 3 June post who went through a stop sign in Rakaia (and pleaded guilty to three counts of careless driving causing death) and said that it is hard to imagine that anyone should mistake what it means.  Certainly in Europe the stop sign is standard, the example above was photographed in France.

This gallery shows that even if the word changes in other countries (e.g. Alto in Mexico, Berhenti in Malaysia and Arrêt in Quebec, Canada (actually incorrect French usage as the sign above demonstrates) the sign form is standard.
