Heathcote railway station, Christchurch

The station that used to exist during the era of Christchurch suburban trains on the Lyttelton line which ended in 1972, and ceased to have any use after that.  As those who have our books can tell, it was one of the stock NZR designs.  Just before the tunnel entrance (out of sight in this view) the double track converged to single track.  The centre island platform was unusually designed to be used on the far side of that facing the building.

Stationside was the up main to Lyttelton and the island served the down main to Christchurch.
Just past the station was the signal box and a runaway spur (very short) to protect the tunnel.
