The Perth electric tram network in cape gauge (3'6") was inaugurated in 1899 and linked Perth's downtown with its inner suburbs, especially on the north side of the Swan River, but was wound down from 1949 and closed in 1958. It had a maximum extent of over 50 km (30 miles) in the 1930s.
