Birkenhead Corporation Tramways operated a tramway between 1901 and 1937, however, this model is of one of two Hong Kong type trams built for the 7 mile (11 km) heritage Wirral Tramway in 1992. The difference is that the gauge is standard whereas the Hong Kong trams are cape gauge (3 ft 6 inches). The tram has only two axles so the axle load would be high when fully laden.
