VT 18.16 entering ferries at Warnemünde and Gedser, Germany to Denmark route

Two promo pics probably from the 1960s of the Neptun: Berlin - Copenhagen service using one of the 8 of these diesel-hydraulic high speed train sets, the Series 175, "Bauart-Görlitz" built in the 1960s, the DDR's equivalent of the TEE sets in the west with higher standards than in the rest of their trains and carriages. The designation came from VT for Verbrennungstriebwagen (internal combustion railcars), 18 for 1800 hp (2 x 900 hp motors) and 16 for the 160 km/h top speed. The axle configuration of the four car sets was B-2 + 2-2 + 2-2 +2-B and a 4-part train could seat 163.

At the end of the 1970s with insufficient capacity for the numbers of passengers most of these trains were converted to locomotive hauled sets.

One today is in the inventory of the DB Museum and is parked in Berlin-Rummelsburg.
