the Soviet military roll into Lwow, Poland, 22 September 1939

Tractors tow field guns, a display of military force to show the inhabitants that Stalin was their new boss after he invaded the eastern half of Poland, while Hitler took the western half.  Some Ukranians living there welcomed the Soviets, but the Poles did not.  Within months many Poles were deported to slave labor in the Soviet Union, their property confiscated and their money made worthless.  For more, see the book Seeds in the Storm.
