Finnish steam on the Haapamäki–Vaasa railway

When this line was opened 130 years ago, Finland was a Russian Grand Duchy, and the railways were built to Russian 5 ft gauge. In this picture preserved locomotive Tr1 1082 was ready to depart from Haapamäki on 2 October 1983 with a special train to celebrate the centenary. After WW1 Finland got its independance and managed to keep it despite an invasion by Stalin's forces in 1939, although it ended up losing some territory. (Frank Stenvall pic)
