new TV program on the Granville, Sydney, rail disaster
The worst railway disaster in Australia, with 83 deaths and 210 injured, was the Granville disaster of 18 January 1977 when a morning electric locomotive hauled passenger train from the Blue Mountains derailed and crashed into a bridge at Granville which within a minute collapsed onto the wrecked cars. Foxtel has commissioned a program on the disaster which is scheduled on both Foxtel and the History Channel in A/NZ in the next days.
A full account of the accident is included in the book Australian Railway Disasters, available at better bookshops in Australia.
