The metre-gauge 17.3 km long Tramway de Menton à Sospel was a part of the network of the Tramways de Nice et du Littoral (see earlier post), opened on 15 April 1912 - as it happened the day the Titanic sank - and lasted to 1931, closed as as result of its financial deficit, in large part a result of the opening of the Tenda Railway into the hinterland.
Leaving Menton, the tram traversed the hamlet of Monti (Menton) and the village of Castillon to reach Sospel. It had three significant viaducts, of which the most notable was the curving Viaduc du Caramel, 125 metres long with 13 arches. Unused since 1931, it still stands today
