On 10 April 1968 one of NZ's worst maritime tragedies took place with the foundering and sinking of the overnight inter-island ferry
Wahine in Wellington Harbour during a fierce storm with the loss of 51 lives, a day that no-one living in Wellington at the time will ever forget.
The event is the subject of the book
Wahine Disaster: A Tragedy Remembered and extensive information about the ship and the sinking is also contained in the book
Strait Crossing, both available in our online shop.
