Jaulny station then and now
Having mentioned Jaulny in Lorraine, France, here is the station: although no longer used as a railway building it is in a lot better condition today than it was at the time of this photo. Being occupied by the Germans, the town was the subject of an American bombardment on 12 September 1918, which obviously didn't spare the station.

a model of Hell station now available
Now you can have your own HO scale model of the famous Hell station in Norway, not far to the north of Trondheim - see earlier post. It is available in the pale yellow of the 1950s and the brown of the 1990s. Info here
the General Post Office, Featherston Street, Wellington, late 1930s
The GPO was considered an earthquake risk after the 1968 earthquake and replaced with the CPO in 1972, after which it was demolished - and left as a hole in the ground until the mid 1980s. Another photo considered for but not used in the book Wellington: a Capital century.

international train in the hills of Lorraine, France
Headed from Frankfurt to Paris gare de l'Est, seen near Jaulny - a mix of DB and SNCF cars headed by a BB 15000 class electric. These days such services are provided by TGV, ICE and Thalys sets.
China Post postcard for the KiwiRail DL class
Dalian in China is where these latest diesel-electrics were built (except for the prime movers which came from MTU in Friedrichshafen in Germany). The first batch of 20 are in service with a further batch of 20 on order.
