early Island Bay, Wellington
Not very exciting at this point perhaps, but a significant sized fishing fleet was soon to be based here; many of the vessels were owned by Italian and Shetland Island immigrants, details of which are in the book Nets, Lines and Pots volume one by Emmanuel Makarios.
Today the fleet has largely diminished again, but it is still a picturesque place.

Ikarus 55 airline bus, Hungary, 1960s
It seems it operated a service right to the aircraft. Malev was the Hungarian national airline until 3 February 2012 when it ceased operating due to insolvency.
Detroit-Windsor bus (US-Canada) 1950s
A publicity photo taken at the point marking the international border inside the road tunnel (see earlier post). Perhaps it is the photographer's car on the right. One notes the pre-Maple Leaf Canadian flag.
cartoons for the inauguration of the Toulouse métro, 26 June 1993
"Hey, when you don't know how to drive, take the Metro!"
"It's admirable how folks adapt quickly!"
"Tomorrow, Georges, you lead me in the Metro, we'll gain lots of time!"
"I'll study the plan this evening, sir"
"So, you're going to take the Metro?
"No, a pastis as usual!"
Three of the 6 cartoon cards from illustrator Martin Veyron.
