"As built in 1935, the
Ville d'Alger and her sister
Ville d'Oran were two of the most ludicrously over-funnelled ships ever. The second dummy funnels were removed in 1939 when they were used as troopships. They were 461 ft long, 10,172 grt and carried up to 500 berthed passengers. The sisters were built for the express service from Marseille to Algiers, and ran on this service throughout their lives with CGT. They were then sold to Typaldos Lines, but this second life was cut short when Typaldos became bankrupt in 1968. Both sisters were sold for scrap."
