Islamic State 'allahu akbar' attacks in Jakarta, Indonesia

At a Starbucks in central Jakarta three suicide bombers reportedly blew themselves up yesterday, injuring one customer.

This was frequented mostly by ordinary, middle-class Indonesians. Likewise, the Sarinah Mall across the road from the Starbucks, is not one of the fancier, more modern malls in the Indonesian capital.

Rather, it is an older and slightly dated shopping centre used mainly by locals to buy pretty basic clothing necessities, with no Prada or Louis Vuitton outlets to be seen.

No doubt the Islamists chose the Starbucks because it is an American chain, although they fortunately caused more damage than carnage, except to themselves.
