a KA with a goods train on the Papatawa bank, 1950s

In the southern Hawkes Bay.  It looks like sparks from passing steam locomotives have caused a trackside fire or two, always a risk in summer, particularly on the dry east coast of both islands. For lots more, see the book New Zealand 1950s steam in colour.

Actually called the Matahiwi Bank by those in Woodville Loco Depot, only those Heathen Palmerston Nth Crews called it the Papatawa Bank.
