Although not as high as the well-known Denniston mine, which was likewise in the Paparoa Range north-east of Westport, Millerton's coal mine was still at a reasonable height. Coal-mining took place between 1896 and 1969 and the 2 ft gauge incline took the coal to bins at Granity. The incline is still largely intact, a recent pic is
