These rigs were seen in Te Moana Road, Waikanae, last week in the area where an up to 10-metre high, 4-lane Autobahn costing $630 million ($US 530 million) will dominate the vista. Bulldozers are also active at the Raumati end, and an elaborate new interchange is being built near the Otaihanga intersection. State Highway 1 between Raumati and Peka Peka will then become a local road and the enormous amount spent on upgrading it between Waikanae and Peka Peka will have been a waste. Such is the nature of government and its agencies...
