1939 Aston Martin 2-Litre Speed Model

Redolent of the good times that were soon about to end.  The headlights here have tape crosses, although during WW2 vehicle headlights were reduced to slits; tape crosses were done on ordinary building windows to reduce flying glass from bomb blasts.

Could the headlight tape also be there because the car was taking part in a rally or other motorsport event? This was compulsory for many events and a wise precaution for the others. Others would use wire light covers.
