French-German frontier at Igney-Avricourt, 1900s

After the war of 1871, the Alsace-Lorraine regions were annexed by Germany and one of the places where the frontier was fixed was at Igney-Avricourt, the town divided and two stations created. In 1919 with the restitution of Alsace-Lorraine to France, the division of Avricourt was maintained by creating two communities side by side, each in a different département, in Moselle and in Meurthe-et-Moselle. The station of Deutsch Avricourt became Nouvel Avricourt.  Today the two buildings remain but the latter is disused.
