The railway station of Narbonne in "néo-Louis XIII style" is one of the oldest in France, opened in 1857. The railway lines through it were electrified in 1935. It is an important 3-way junction, with both passenger and freight trains coming from Toulouse, Nîmes, Perpignan and Spain (via Port Bou) although some trains avoid the station by a curve between the Toulouse and Perpignan lines.
